The virtue eruptions continue to transform Canada. American satirist Bill Maher is now calling Carney’s Canada a cautionary tale. A guy who spent years defending the Left is looking at what Canada has become and saying: it’s not better there anymore. Not even close. But will anyone in Elbows Up listen?

With her lifeless eyes and laconic delivery she’s the Stasi version of Jodie Foster. Beware when Melanie Joly, dirge-like holdover from the Trudeau years, contemplates "legal action" against users on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and other social media that she suspects of spreading "misleading information."  She didn’t get to where she is today by being afraid to break a few free-range eggs.

This is a playbook the Liberals have run so often-- to so little benefit for Canada-- that people have become numb to their incompetence and chicanery. They will continue setting your money on fire for another three years, because CDN media would rather concentrate on Poilievre living at Stornaway. Or Trump teasing Canada about its inadequacies.

Because their media only spins the leftist American slants, Euros were expecting the America of race-crank, Joy Reid: “Nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July. It is the celebration of slaveholders who freed themselves from having to pay taxes to the Crown for their slave empire.” Instead they got friendly restaurants, 100-stall gas stations and fabulous stadiums. Which they will take back to their home countries.

While waxing philosophical about the historic Irish culture, Mark Carney has ideas about Canada’s culture. And it’s not The Maple Leaf Forever. “Canada is a mosaic, not a melting pot. And the beauty is in the arrangement, not in the blending.”  The beauty? Why not put up a sign at the border that says “Canada: Open For New Ideas”?

The well-heeled soldiers of the status quo remain locked in their Elbows Up/ TDS talking bot fixation over Alberta. But they deserve a chance to decide whether they want to take the rocky economic ride with Central Canada or risk a different future with its opportunities and challenges. They’re prepared for the outcome. But the holy of holies condescension? Not happening.

Today’s media are ensnared in traps of their own making, accepting government funds while pontificating instead of reporting. If there’s a crisis of confidence in the nation blame much of the electronic and print media who eagerly regurgitated propaganda from the Trudeau and now Carney Liberals. Canadians fish from a single river of information and so think there’s just one fish you can catch.

Danielle must be stopped before she puts the Liberal world in a vise. Carney has to produce miracles -- quickly--on pipelines before his Brookfield pumpkin appears. In short, Colbert killed comedy. Trudeau/ Carney destroyed the real bonds of Canada and replaced them with a Rogers guy at your door looking to sell you the past. Gee, it's great to be alive in the Elbows Up.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, but occasionally you can fool all the people all the time. Especially when it’s the Elbows Up rubes. Mark Carney has used the climate catastrophe gig to grab hold of Canada’s cow fart fortunes. Even though The United Nations’ climate change committee has now quietly discarded the dire temperature-rise scenarios in its latest two reports Carney is going full bore with the carbon tax alarmism.

To those aspiring to traditional muckraking, he was a role model, unafraid and unexcitable. For some with lesser resumés, Fife’s sheet would have occasioned bragging and drawing attention to themselves. But in the best tradition of Grattan O’Leary, Bruce Hutchison and Jefferey Simpson, Fife kept a low profile and high batting average. But then the corrosive effects of Trump Derangement Syndrome took hold of Fife— as it has so many Canadians.

While Mark Carney is crowning himself the Emperor of Ice Cream in Armenia, it might be better had he stayed home to mend Canada’s values and principles. Maybe because he’s paying off all levels of media back home he thinks it’s tickety-boo to go visit the grocers in Europe who have given him a bill to collect.  Let’s put it in words he can understand: Thanks to the past 12 years of Liberal incompetence there is no Canadian culture left.

On the theory that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, Pope Leo has vaulted in the pantheon of Trump enemies Robert DeNiro,. Mark Ruffalo and Bruce Springsteen as noble warriors in the service of DEI. The hypocrisy of this glam squad was noted by American comedian/ host Bill Maher. “See, liberals suddenly love the Pope,' Maher said. 'A guy who does exorcism, doesn't believe in gay marriage. No women priests. But now, because he's feuding with Trump, MSNBC loves this guy.’” Strange days indeed.

The cliché holds that Right Wingers are supposed to be suckers for Donald Trump’s bombast. But the Liberals—and their purloined Conservatives and Knee Deeps— swooned for his treacle at the convention, making the point that the Left is even more vulnerable to Obama-style speechifying. Virtue is like a muscle? Must be the muscle involved in knee jerks.

As the MAiD rollout continues, people with loved ones are discovering the law of unintended consequences. Namely, if you seek the service you’d better be ready to take it before you might prefer. Living Wills or care instructions are moot when dementia arrives. The patient is kept alive to await a natural death. Often this can extend for a lengthy period, stressing the patient and the family even more.

It was with utter chagrin that we saw this towering figure used as a prop by the cynical governing party of Canada, a background figure to legitimize Mark Carney at the Junos. Ostensibly lured into this trap to be rightly honoured for her career, Joni— seated regally next to Elbows Up man—  was an adjunct to Carney’s drive to win by-elections and gain a majority in the Commons. 

If, as CBC groupies say, the network has an audience to serve then the government can sell it to someone who can make a profit from the content. If no one takes the opportunity for profit then you have your answer about the value of CBC. It exists to prevent the dissemination of news, not promote it.

The 2024 “Time’s Up” intervention at Mar A Lago from Trump was rude. Like all addicts, Canada’s Laurentian elite reacted with shock to being confronted. “Us? You’re being harsh with your best buddies?” Yes, he was. After a decade of Trudeau smashing the furniture and generations of Canadian liberals taking America for granted, Trump was calling their bluff on tariffs. In retaliation Canada cozied up to China. Bad move.

Robert Bennett: 1952-2023. This past week marked the third anniversary of the death of my friend Rob Bennet from ALS. But his memory still burns bright in the minds of the great musicians and artists he brought to Canada over the decades. And to those of us who knew the total man. Here’s how I marked his passing on March 14, 2023.

If what you want is grand policy announcements, lavish promises of aid and photo ops in every corner of the globe then Carney is your man. He’s certainly the man for the Elbows Up crowd who continue to see him as equal parts Lester Pearson/ Pierre Trudeau/ Paul Martin. The antidote to Orange Man Bad down south.  But it’s an opinion that few outside Canada share. Least of all with Canada’s biggest trading partner.
